Its shiny, sharp teeth seem ready to sink into you at any moment’s notice. You notice its canines, incidentally shaped like vampire fangs. Its big eyes stare at you silently, as if trying to steal your soul (it did). You look down, catching a glimpse of its edged claws, like that of a bat thirsting for blood.
No, it’s not your Halloween costume. Many of our little animal friends, kept at home, can sometimes be our worst nightmares. So, why don’t we dress them up and have them join the spooky shenanigans?
The Howler: Who is your pet, and what are they going to be for Halloween?
Natalie Chen: My cat’s name is Darci, and she’s an American Shorthair. This year, I’m dressing her up as a pumpkin.
Audrey Ho: My pet is Milo, and he’s an American Eskimo dog. I’m dressing him up as a ghost [this year].
Amirali Rouhighodsinia: My dog’s name is Coco, he’s 8 years old and he’s a Pomeranian-Maltese mix. For Halloween, Coco is being dressed up as Santa Claus. Only thing that’s missing [from the costume] is his beard.
TH: Why did you choose to dress up your pet?
NC: My sister’s friend bought the costume for her, and [my sister and I] thought, ‘Oh, that’s cute,’ so we decided to dress her up.
AH: I dressed up my pet for Halloween because I like choosing outfits for him. I chose [a ghost costume] because he has white fur [that] matches with a ghost, and because it’s easy to make.
AR: My family likes to dress up for Halloween as a whole, and we decided that since Coco is part of our family too, we should dress him up as well.
TH: Does your pet like their outfit?
NC: She doesn’t like her costume at all. When I tried to put it on her, she used her claws to try to take it off herself. She was successful numerous times, which was kind of annoying because I like making fun of her.
AH: My pet does not like his outfit because he likes to bite it off. [The costume] covers his eyes so he always tries to scratch it off.
AR: I think he [likes his outfit]. He becomes a little bit slower when wearing his outfit, but he’s generally happy when wearing it.
