Track & Field
Riley Gilbert (12): Track is an individual sport. We see each other compete, so I need to be on the top of my game at all times. It’s a way for us to be like, ‘Okay, now I want to try and push it further.’
Jack Gilbert (12): We know how hard both of us push against our limits. I know he’ll be in there in the weight room with me until I’m done, and he knows that I will do the same for him.
RG: Being able to hear each other’s voices while we are both running keeps each other grounded. Really, we can perform at our best.
Girls Lacrosse
Lauren Low (11): Having a sibling on the team makes it easier to build chemistry. It helps improve our gameplay during actual competitive games.
Alexis Low (11): It’s like having a built-in partner I can always practice with. She can look at me and I know exactly what she’s going to do.
LL: It’s really easy to be straightforward with each other and improve faster, especially since your sibling looks out for you, and knows how to communicate with you.
Football, Wrestling & Cross Country
Braelynn Lynch (10): Having my siblings on the team supporting me makes me want to try harder so I can be better than them. It’s definitely motivating.
Quintin Lynch (12): When my teammates mess up in practice or in game, I’m pretty mad and smack them on the helmet. But when my sister, Ashlynn, started playing football, I was like, I’m just gonna boost her up and say, ‘Good job,’ even though she did the wrong thing.
Ashlynn Lynch (10): Most people don’t have their siblings in the same sport, so having that time, even if it’s only for a year, those are memories to cherish.
Girls Tennis
Diane Almaoui (10): Since we’re sisters, we live together and have spent our whole lives together, so that personal connection is definitely there, on and off the court.
Reina Almaoui (11): There was this one time when I was playing a singles game, and I was losing. She was the one telling me that ‘I can do it,’ and I ended up doing well in that game, so that was really helpful.
DA: Tennis is a really tough mental game. I think just being there allows me to communicate with her and lift her spirits.
