April 14, 2022
Boys Lacrosse dominated Irvine High School at their senior night game on March 30, winning with a score of 13-1. The game was a testament to the team’s efforts throughout the season and built significant momentum with the final stretch of the season approaching.
The game began relatively even, as the score was tied at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter. Northwood soon began to pull away, however, and by halftime the Timberwolves led 4-1. The score then ballooned to 13-1 as Northwood showed the effect of their dedication to the sport.
“Lacrosse has been a huge part of my life for the past eight years, and I’ve made many friendships and memories,” senior Alex DeLong said. “I couldn’t have asked for more energetic teammates who have stuck with this program through thick and thin.”
The seniors were highlighted in a ceremony at the beginning of the game, where their names were announced along with the number of years they played on the team. In addition, each seniors’ college plans were highlighted along with their favorite memory playing with the team.
“One thing I’ve learned by playing lacrosse is the importance of communication and building bonds with your teammates,” senior Eamon Engelerdt said. “It not only helps the performance on the field, but it also helps with building chemistry off the field.”
Although the season has had its ups and downs, the team has made great strides in their play and cooperative spirit. After two consecutive losses at the beginning of the season, Northwood responded with intensity and dominated their next two games by wide margins, and has continued to show growth throughout the season.
The team will look to end their season on a strong note with games against Woodbridge, Beckman and finishing at home with a game against Laguna Hills on April 27. Be sure to show your support for the team by cheering them on at home games, which take place at the Northwood field.
