Congratulations—you’re about to finish middle school! Whether you’re feeling ecstatic or nervous about starting high school, pause to celebrate. Now, let’s take a look ahead at your time at Northwood.
On Aug. 12, you should attend New to Northwood Night. The information you will learn is essential to starting high school off right. You’ll first meet your Advisement classmates, peers who will experience the next four years with you, and your Link Crew leaders, upperclassmen who will visit your TA to share advice about transitioning to high school.
At Northwood, community building extends beyond the classroom. Through our athletics program, all students—regardless of prior experience—can participate in sports, allowing them to develop leadership skills and build friendships. Sign up for one of Northwood’s Athletics Summer Skills Camps to see what it’s like to be a Northwood athlete.
“Finding these common values and interest in my sport really gave me a sense of what the Northwood community was like,” varsity golf junior Anson Chen said. “That led me to explore Northwood’s other communities on campus.”
Whether pursuing visual arts electives or partaking in Northwood’s award-winning instrumental music, dance and theatre programs, students of all skill levels can learn how to express themselves artistically.
Admist a student body of over 2,000 students, Northwood’s 100+ student organizations make the school feel much smaller. From honing negotiation tactics through Model United Nations to sampling delicacies in Global Baking Club (or perhaps writing for The Northwood Howler), you can find your niche at Northwood.
“All the clubs at Northwood are so unique,” Global Baking Club president senior Joyce Zhang said. “It’s a really great way for new students to find a community that aligns with their interests and explore new clubs that they maybe didn’t think they’d be interested in, but learn to enjoy.”
If planning school events like pep rallies and dances interests you, keep an eye out for Freshman Class Council applications, freshman class elections and Student Forum (TA representative) elections during the first few weeks of school.
“Through class council, you get to meet so many new people, which is really fun,” Freshman Class Council member Mischka Rajula said. “Hosting and planning the different events do bring people together, whether it be people in your grade or grades higher than you.”
High school will be what you make of it. Whether you prefer bolstering school spirit or getting hyped on the sidelines, remember to take risks, get involved and treat yourself and others with compassion. Welcome to Northwood Class of 2029!
