Among the hundreds of clubs we have on campus, an area that has been surprisingly uncovered compared to student interest is fashion. From alternative grunge to high fashion, Love & Lace covers it all.
Founded this fall by senior Dae Truong and junior Glory Parel, Love & Lace aims to create a safe space for self-expression through clothing design while raising awareness about sustainability and the fashion industry’s environmental impact.
“The point is that everyone has freedom of expression, but we also want people to feel comfortable with the pieces they already have,” Parel said. “We’re going to have up-cycling sessions and workshops, and do a clothes drive. The focus is on not buying new clothes necessarily, but also using the pieces you already have.”
Beyond the presentations, the club will offer long-term projects simulating real experiences in the fashion industry. Providing students who are interested in pursuing fashion-related careers with skills and resources, Love & Lace plan to host fashion shows, fundraisers, exhibitions and more.
“It’s just as much a culture club as it is an art club,” Truong said. “We explore different substyles and the subcultures they come from, and we also hold lots of informative presentations about the history of this art.”
Love and lace meets every Wednesday in Room 1207 during lunch. Anyone interested can follow @nhsloveandlace on Instagram for updates on meeting agendas, activities and fashion spotlights.
“Our booth at the club rush was really successful, so we’re expecting a pretty big turnout,” Truong said. “I hope everyone will feel welcome and encouraged to join, no matter their grade or gender.”
