Riley Bajorek (11) – Softball Captain
“A hard part about being a girl in sports is earning respect from other male athletes or people in general. Our hard work is often overlooked due to our gender. Despite softball and baseball being different sports, we get compared and told that we aren’t as important or relevant. I work very hard to better myself for the success of the team, and being told that I do not play a ‘real sport’ by my peers repeatedly becomes dehumanizing. The best response is to ignore it and destroy the team we are playing to prove them wrong. Being a female in sports isn’t easy, but it is one of the most fulfilling feelings when we succeed.”
