“Often, women are talked down to because they aren’t seen as intelligent during their argument. Even in speech, it’s surprising how men often write humorous points that stem from making a sexist joke or mocking women. We try to teach everyone in our club that respect is one of the most important aspects of being a debater and speaker. We can’t control other people’s actions, but it’s something we need to teach the women in our club how to handle and overcome.”
