Tennis season preview
Northwood’s Varsity Boys Tennis Team is gearing up for its upcoming season, and thanks to Coach John Tichy, the players are confident that they’ll claim many victories.
“I think the team this year is solid because Coach Tichy has done a good job preparing us,” said sophomore Santhosh Shunmugaraja. “I think we’re going to do well this year.”
The team has been hard at work, tirelessly preparing for a strong start to the season under the coaching of Varsity head Tichy. Every day, these tennis players spend at least two hours playing singles and doubles matches and running laps around the school under the scorching sun. During every practice, each team member targets his individual goals. As some work on improving their slices, forehand, and backhand, others tweak their first serves, second serves and volleys.
University High School, one of the elite high school tennis teams of the Irvine League, has traditionally been the team to beat for Northwood.
“We have a lot of preparation to do before we can play well against Uni,” said freshman Nicholas Wang.
The members of Northwood’s Varsity Tennis team are hoping that all their practice will translate to a strong start in league play with a win against Beckman High School on Tuesday, March 24.
