Girls Soccer dominates
With a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Corona Del Mar Sea Kings on Feb. 12 and a League best record of 8-1-1, the Northwood Girls Soccer team placed first in the Pacific Coast League (PCL).
“It’s extremely gratifying to know that we earned the title through hard work and dedication, and I’m thankful to have done it with such an amazing group of girls,” said junior Dani Solaru.
Though neither team was able to score in the first half, the second half was a different story. Solaru headed in the ball thanks to a perfectly positioned free kick from senior Rhea Palsule, putting Northwood up 1-0.
However, the Sea Kings were able to tie the game up 1-1 with a corner kick.
With two minutes left and the game tied 1-1, Palsule took a free kick and scored, putting Northwood up 2-1 for the remainder of the game.
“I knew that this was my last season game of my high school career and my last chance to make a mark. I knew my team was counting on me,” said Palsule.
With the freshman team going undefeated and the junior varsity team also dominating, Northwood girls soccer swept PCL. Because the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams all placed first in League, the girls are very confident about the future.
“I have really high hopes about next season. Northwood had a clean sweep of League this year, and I think that we can continue our legacy,” said junior Jessica Hyman.
