The school year has just kicked off with new courses, new activities and of course, a new incoming class of timberpups. But if you’re still in that summer state of mind, here are a few reminders and noteworthy fall events to help you transition back to life as a Timberwolf.

Pep Rally: The first rally of the year, hosted by Pep Rally Commissioners seniors Krishna Ravi and Youngbo Shim, will be held tomorrow to welcome students back to the pack. Students will be able to see performances from Marching Band and pep squad, along with videos shot by NTV.

Back to School Dance: The first dance takes place tomorrow night from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The theme is colors, with seniors in pink, juniors in blue, sophomores in purple and freshmen in white. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in the Student Activities Center (SAC) during breaks for a lower price. Don’t forget to have a completed dance contract!

Football Game: Come out to Portola High School to support our football team in the first game of the season against Saddleback Valley Christian High School on Sep. 26. The game will feature a Pixar-themed halftime performance by Marching Band.

“Almost, Maine”: The fall play will be performed on the nights of Sep. 13-16, with a matinee performance on Sep. 16. “Almost, Maine” is a collection of vignettes centered around love in the small town of Almost, Maine. Tickets are $5 for general admissions and can be purchased online or at the theatre box office the week before the show.

Class Changes: Courses can be changed and dropped up to two weeks after the first day of school. Students can visit their counselors for a complete list of courses and more information.

Schedule: Northwood will be operating on the Monday/Friday schedule, with the exception of late starts on Wednesdays for the first week and a half. Tutorial schedule will begin after Labor Day weekend, and students can use the 40-minute free period to study, ask their teachers questions or relax. Schedules can be found both on the Northwood website and in student planners.

PSAT and Practice Act: The deadline to register for the PSAT is Sep. 16 and the deadline to register for the practice ACT is Oct. 14. The PSAT and practice ACT is open to sophomores and juniors, and juniors can take the PSAT as an official qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship.

These events are just the beginning of a year filled with exciting activities and opportunities, and The Howler wishes everyone good luck with the upcoming year!
