With exhilarating beat drops and flashing lights, the Northwood Back to School Dance started the school year off on a colorful note. Hundreds of Northwood students, dressed in vibrant shirts and neon tights, danced the night away to the first annual dance on Friday, Aug. 26.
Organized by Northwood ASB, this year’s Back to School Dance theme was colors. Students dressed according to their class colors: white for freshmen, purple for sophomores, blue for juniors and pink for seniors.
“One of my favorite parts of dances is getting ready for the dance with my friends,” senior Christie Yang said. “It was a lot of fun matching with my friends and decking myself in pink this year.”
Led by a DJ from N-Effect Productions, the dance offered an endless night of fistpumping music. Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl,” Travis Scott’s “Antidote” and Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss” were among many of the crowd favorites.
“My favorite song was ‘Yiken,’ but the music was really good overall,” senior Laujayne Shehab said. “It kept the dance fun and upbeat through the whole night.”
As the first dance of the year, the Back to School Dance served as an exciting introduction for freshmen to Northwood dances.
“I had a great time dancing all night with my friends, and I’m looking forward to going to future dances,” freshman Lara Gursoy said.
With over 750 attendees, the dance was a great success for ASB. Students can look forward to the upcoming dance Happily Ever After Homecoming on Oct. 7 for more memorable experiences.
“I thought the dance was really successful because there was a great turnout for the class of 2021,” senior ASB president Claire O’Connor said. “It is awesome to see the class getting involved so early on. Homecoming is the next dance and it is definitely something you don’t want to miss.”
