Beauty Tips with Issa Wen

As the day grows shorter and the crisp weather descends on us, the promise of cozy sweaters, fall foliage and warm beverages is finally around the corner. Makeup enthusiast junior Issa Wen shares some of her beauty tips for transitioning to the colder weather.

November brings cooler weather and a drop in humidity, causing dry, stale air and even drier skin. To avoid dry, flaky skin, it is very important to replenish your skin by drinking lots of water and using moisturizer. However, for those who have dead, flaky skin, Wen recommends to target the problematic spots with Q-tips.

“If you have flakes, put some moisturizer on a cotton swab and go over your dry spots,” Wen said. “It’s a better and more precise method, especially for those who get oily in the day.”

Additionally, Wen advises incorporating moisturizer in your daily makeup routine, to ensure your skin is hydrated and the application process is smooth effortless.

“Massaging eye cream before applying concealer is especially helpful when it’s dry,” Wen said. “It also helps with lines and puffiness.”

Bold Brows

Every great piece of art deserves a beautiful frame. Bold brows, like those of Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins, are a trendy way to frame the face and transform your features during the winter months.

“To recreate bold, but not overpowering brows, use a brow pencil or brow pomade no more than two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color,” Wen said. “Make sure to blend your brow product out with a spoolie after every few stroke. Some brow products set and that’s when it gets uneven. Keep repeating this process until it’s to your liking.”

Vampy Lips

The epitome of fall and winter makeup looks is dark, vampy lips. Dark hues, like burgundy, plum and brown lip colors, are great accessories for spicing up any look. However, since darker lip products, especially liquid lipsticks, tend to be very drying, Wen recommends treating your lips prior.

“Vampy lips, especially matte vampy lips, can get very dry and patchy,” Wen said. “So, I recommend lightly exfoliating your lips and following with lip balm the night before so your lips have time to replenish.”
