Basketball ready for season
After an undefeated run in the PCL, last year, Northwood’s Boys Basketball team is looking to carry on its winning streak as it prepares for the upcoming winter season.
“I am looking forward to the season. I hope we can repeat our undefeated streak in the league again this year and also go much farther in the playoffs,” senior Bowie Liu said.
Under the leadership of head coach Tim O’Brien, the team has been training hard since the start of the school year and hopes to start off its preseason strong.
Last season was extremely memorable with a 10-0 record and qualifying to second round of the CIF playoffs. Unfortunately, they were stopped in their tracks by Cerritos High School.
In preparation for the competitive league, the Timberwolves have been conducting rigorous practice sessions including practice matches, shooting practice, passing drills and stamina building.
“We have been training and practicing everyday, working with bands for resistance, going to the weight room and cross training which have all definitely impacted our performance so far,” senior Marcelo Rivas said.
Although the team has lost strong seniors such as Jake Linsky, veteran team members such as senior Akshay Harishankar and junior Jacob Huynh have stepped up to lead the team to victory.
Currently, the team is preparing for its upcoming matchup against Cypress High School at home at 7:00 PM tonight.
